Installing and configuring software
Next, on Xiaomi smarts, you need to move a couple of “sliders” in the settings. So, we find the menu: “settings” – section “wireless networks” – “more” (additional functions), “NFC”. At this point, the software installation can be considered complete. The next step is the setup.
Setting up Android Pay involves entering information about available payment cards. So let’s start the application. Now the program will ask for information about the Google account that you plan to use. If the operating system database contains information about only one account, it will be used by default. From the account data, the program receives information about the payment card, and during registration it asks, as confirmation, for the cvv code of the payment card. If, when registering a Google account, the bank card details were not entered into the system, it’s time to do it right now!
Click the “+” icon in the lower right corner and indicate “add a debit or credit bank card.” Now you can either scan the card using the built-in camera, or enter (correctly and without errors!) Data manually.
Attention! To register, you will need to enter the cvv code of the card. In this case, it is a reasonable necessity.
To complete the registration, you may need to enter the code from the SMS message from the bank that owns the card.
Further, 30 rubles will be debited from the bank card account, which after some time will be returned back to the account. This is also a necessary authorization procedure, a similar mechanism is used in many global payment systems.
In the same way, you can “tie” other bank cards to G Pay and select them, as needed, for making payments.
After all the above manipulations, your smartphone received the function of making contactless payments in stores, subways and other public places – naturally, where the corresponding terminal is installed.
Brief manual
The first question after installing and setting up Android Pay is how to use the program. It is not difficult at all, but the following circumstances must be taken into account:
- If the program database contains data from two or more cards, one of them must be specified as the main one. By default, payment will be made from this card. Or – you need to select the desired card, and only then bring the device to the terminal;
- Of course, first you need to unlock your smartphone, and only then bring it to the terminal. Of course, you may need to enter a pin code, depending on the settings of the terminal and the requirements of the bank that issued the card. All these are elementary rules for using the contactless payment system, but it was necessary to remind them!
This information is enough to start using G Pay.
If something went wrong.
It happens that there is no doubt about whether Xiaomi supports Android Pay. In addition, the program was successfully installed, the payment card data was entered, but for some reason payment does not occur. In such a situation, we check the following, literally point by point:
Permits
We go into the OS settings, look for the “security” section. Next, select the menu items: “permissions”, then other “permissions”. Here you need to enable all the “sliders” for the G Pay application.
Battery
We find the settings of the “Battery and performance” section and remove all restrictions for the program we need.
Another possible failure in the application – the amount of payment exceeds 1000 rubles. Such payments, so far, do not go through the G Pay payment system.
If all the comments are taken into account, we try again to bring the gadget to the terminal and make a payment.
However, given all that has been said before, you should not completely rely on the contactless payment function in your smartphone. So far, this technology has not become widespread and it is always necessary to insure in cash or with a bank card.
Security and privacy
In conclusion, a few words about the protection of information and personal data. According to the Google team, the Google Pay system does not transfer data from real payment cards when making a payment. For the transaction, temporary virtual card data is used, which, if it gets to the attacker, will not help him in any way.
Some time ago, Western partners disabled the ability for all Russian citizens to use Visa or Master Card cards to pay for purchases using smartphones with the Google Pay service.
I won’t talk about the reasons for such a decision, everything is obvious, but now the question arose of what to do for us, those who are used to using a Xiaomi (Redmi) phone in order to pay for purchases in stores through bank terminals using NFC.
I found two alternatives that replace Google Pay, are its complete alternative, on Xiaomi, but with cards.
Don’t worry, MIR cards are issued by all major Russian banks, moreover, for our purposes, i.e. to replace Google Pay with Xiaomi, you don’t even need to order a physical plastic card, its electronic counterpart is enough. This type of card is ordered inside banking programs on a smartphone and created in a matter of minutes, after which they can be used.
First of all, I draw your attention to the application, because it is universal, suitable not only for Xiaomi or Redmi, but also for any other Android smartphone that has an NFC chip.
Mir Pay must be downloaded from the app store, it can be Play Market, GetApps or RuStore.
Upon entering the application, you will be asked to add a Mir card, enter its data that you have already received in the banking application, you will be asked: card number, expiration date and CVV security code. Do not forget to link the new card to your bank account from which you want the payment to take place.
Then select the program as the main payment program on Xiaomi, to do this, enter the general settings of the smartphone, find the menu item “Connection and Sharing”.

SberPay on Xiaomi as an alternative to Google Pay
The second option is suitable for those who use bank services in Russia.
If the first option that I described above is universal, suitable for all Xiaomi users who have a Mir card issued by any bank, then SberPay will only work for Sber bank customers.
Before you start using the service, you need to issue a Mir card (if you don’t have one yet) in the banking application.
You can do this by clicking on the “+” button above your account, and then select the desired type of card.
Activate the “Pay by SberPay phone” item.
Additionally, make sure that the Sberbank application is the main one for payments, as I described in the previous chapter about the Xiaomi settings item “Connection and Sharing”.
