Important: To use contactless payments on your Xiaomi phone, you must have a locked bootloader. If the bootloader is unlocked, you will have to block it or use Magisk to bypass verification.
NFS setting for any specified model is identical. The instruction itself is very simple and contains four steps.
1) Open the phone settings.
2) Select the item “Additional functions” (section “Wireless networks”).
3) In the tab that opens, select “Allow data exchange when combining the phone with another device” (to enable NFC, move the slider to the right).
4) Activate the “Android Beam” item (it is disabled by default). Also move the slider to the right.
Congratulations! Now the NFS module is enabled. You can use Android Pay and share data with other devices.

How to use NFC on Xiaomi
Most often, users want to use NFC on Xiaomi as a substitute for bank cards, so that it is convenient to pay for purchases in stores.
To do this, you must first install an application that will be associated with the bank in which your money is located.
In the recent past, it was possible to use the Google Pay program by entering data on a bank card into which a smartphone automatically deducted money from it when brought to a bank terminal.
But now this application cannot be used, instead of it in Russia now Mir Pay, which works only with MIR cards.
And although Xiaomi smartphones also support other protocols for working with NFC, for example, by touching one phone with another, it is possible to start transferring photos or other data, this is not very convenient.
For some reason, the operation of this algorithm is not stable. Its essence is that NFC is necessary to exchange settings for further data transfer via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. It does not always work quickly and clearly, so I used this opportunity only a couple of times in a few years and remained somewhat confused.
NFC activation
So, the first step is to activate the module that the smartphone has. There are two ways to do this: through the notification shade or through the device settings. It is recommended to have an idea of two options at once in order to use them in any situation.
Through the notification shade
To implement this method, you just need to lower the notification shade by swiping down from the top of the screen, and then tap on the “NFC” icon. Depending on the version of Android, this item may have the name “NFC module” or “Contactless payment” and be highlighted in different colors.
Via phone settings
The second method is less fast, but no less reliable. Here you will not need a notification curtain, but you will only need to follow the algorithm that is set out in the instructions:
- Open your phone settings.
- Go to Connect and Share.
- Activate the slider next to the NFC item.
You may also need to set “HCE Wallet” as a payment method, since “SIM Wallet” uses the chip installed in the SIM card, not in the smartphone, to pay.
Check NFC setting
Sometimes there is a violation of the parameters of the contactless module, moreover, there are only two guiding options, and therefore are easy to check. Go to your phone settings and look for the “Connection and sharing” category, where you need to make sure that the NFC technology is functioning, and in the “Security element location” section there is an option for “HCE”.
If no solution to the problem turned out to be quite effective, then you can only try resetting to factory settings, but first you need to back up user data that is irreversibly deleted on the smartphone itself.
How to know if NFC is on my Xiaomi
It is possible to determine if there is NFC on a Xiaomi phone using the following methods:
- The easiest is to enter the phone model into Yandex or Google, open the official website with a description of the characteristics and see if they mention NFC.
- Open Xiaomi general settings, find “Connection and Sharing”, check it for NFC settings. If they are, then the smartphone supports this technology.
Clear Google Pay app cache
During the MIUI 12 software update phase, failures may occur, after which an attempt to pay for a purchase of products in the store is accompanied by an error display instead of the normal normal transaction.

Linking and unlinking a bank card
To pay with your phone, you first need to set up contactless payment on your Xiaomi (Redmi, POCO) phone by adding a payment card to the Google Pay app. You can link a MIR card, MasterCard, VISA and any other payment system.
How to link a card to an NFC phone:
- Launch Google Pay using the appropriate icon.
- In the lower right corner, click on the cross icon.
- Enter your pattern to unlock GPay (usually the same key that is used to unlock your phone).
- Select Add Credit or Debit Card.
- The camera window will appear. Take a photo of the card from both sides to scan and add data.
- The system will send an SMS to the linked phone number with a code to confirm the entered data. Enter it in the appropriate field and click OK.
Now you can use contactless payment. If for some reason it was not possible to scan the card, you can always enter the necessary data manually.

Does your phone have an NFC module

Xiaomi A-series Android One smartphones (A1, A2, A2 Lite, A3) do not support NFC.

To use the module in Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones, you must first enable NFC in the settings. The activation process is approximately the same for both MIUI 11 and MIUI 12 or 13. In all cases, the standard phone settings are used.
How to enable NFC on Xiaomi:
- Open the settings from the corresponding icon on the main screen.
- Go to the “Additional functions” section in the Wireless networks section.
- Move the slider next to NFC to the “On” position.
- In the “Location of the security element” line, select “HCE Wallet”.
- Return to the original settings list and select Apps.
- Tap “All Apps”.
- Find “Google Pay” and click on the desired line. If the application is not available, install it (link to Google Play).
- In the “Autostart” column, move the slider to the “On” position.
This manual is relevant for all Xiaomi phones. Only in different versions of MIUI, some menu items may differ. However, the general procedure will remain exactly the same.
For Google Pay to work, and in general NFC and contactless payment, the bootloader must be blocked on the phone.
Also, Google Pay does not work if the smartphone is rooted or has custom firmware installed – this prevents contactless payment by the smartphone.

Google Pay stopped working on my phone or watch
In connection with the well-known world events, sanctions have been imposed on some banks in the Russian Federation, and Google Corporation is prohibited from interacting with them.
Cardholders of these banks are deprived of the opportunity to pay with them using phones and smart watches. Google Pay and Apple Pay do not work, although the cards of sub-sanctioned banks of VISA and MasterCard payment systems in Russia are accepted for payment.
Payment by phone does not work or works intermittently (which means it will turn off completely soon) at the following banks:

- VTB Bank.
- Opening.
